I make Dark, Moody Quilts…
. . . for dark moody quilters.
I did not start out a quilter. There was no way you could convince me that cutting something up into a thousand pieces was fun or cathartic. I made bags, clothes, decorative pieces, but never a quilt.
That was until I was asked by “the aunts” to make a wedding quilt for my cousin. I decided to give it a try, after all, I wasn’t paying for anything but my time. And then . . . I got it.
Quilting is like putting a giant puzzle together, but you get to keep it, use it, and have it forever. I got to be apart of something a little bigger than myself.
BUT
What I also found out, was I had the most fun doing the actual free motion quilting part. I quite literally knew nothing about what I was doing, but somehow it just made sense to me. I could not make quilts fast enough to then get to actually quilt them.
I have been sewing for about 2 decades now and I always circle back to quilting. I make textiles for bags and purses, I have quilted leather, satin, minky, cork, canvas, denim, t-shirts. I have couched, raw appliqued, reverse appliqued, pieced an entire quilt, and even bound a quilt on a longarm. I am always looking for new things to do and make on my machines.
I love sewing and quilting so much that my 9-5 is a sewing machine shop! I am always learning, troubleshooting machines, and teaching. It’s an incredible place, with amazing customers and co-workers. I really enjoy everything about it.
If you do happen to find me not at my job or sewing, my face is probably buried in a book or playing games with my family, taking pictures on a short hike, or just at the computer planning my next big thing.
